Oral surgery
Oral surgery is a field that deals with the treatment of hard tissues in the oral cavity through surgical procedures. At our practice, within the scope of oral surgery, you can receive services such as: surgical tooth extraction, extraction of impacted wisdom teeth, apicoectomy, cyst removal (cystectomy), bone augmentation, and more.
Surgical tooth extraction or the removal of impacted wisdom teeth is a procedure performed under local anesthesia and appropriate antibiotic therapy. It involves making an incision in the soft tissue and removing a portion of the bone in order to access and extract the tooth that needs to be removed.
After surgical extraction, the patient receives an injection to reduce pain and swelling, along with guidelines that must be followed:
- Do not rinse or swish your mouth
- Avoid hot and hard foods
- Apply cold compresses for the first 12 hours
- Take painkillers as needed (but NOT aspirin-based!)
- Take antibiotics as prescribed
- Avoid heavy physical activity and no gym for the first 48 hours
- Follow-up appointment in 24 hours
Apicoectomy and cystectomy are surgical procedures performed when a defect has formed in the bone near the root tip or in an isolated area that can no longer be treated solely with endodontic therapy. In such cases, all pathological tissue must be surgically removed to prevent recurrence. Sometimes, the defect also requires the placement of regenerative materials to support bone healing.
Dental implants are one of the most common complex procedures performed in our practice. The process involves placing a titanium screw into the jawbone. After the implant integrates, a porcelain crown is placed to complete the restoration. Implants are an excellent way to replace missing teeth. People often prefer implants over dentures because they are a fixed solution that can remain in place for a lifetime.
